Guilt-free food to try at this all vegan festival

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippines is home to many delicious food. But we have to admit, some of our Pinoy favorites like isaw, sisig, and barbecue can be bad for the heart.

This doesn't mean that you can't eat your street food favorites forever. There are now plant-based versions of almost any food that you can think of. These are cholesterol-free and cruelty-free!

Here are some of the guilt-free food you can try at Vegfest Pilipinas 2019:

Try vegan versions of isaw, barbecue, taba, and more. They also offer plant-based versions of some Filipino breakfast favorites like tocino, longganisa, and tapa.

They’re famous for vacon – the plant-based version of bacon. They also offer sweet style Filipino spaghetti, sisig, and different kinds of sweet and savory pies like curry empanada, peach mango and buko pies.

If you’re into sweets, be sure to try to Miuccia’s vegan doughnuts, cakes, monster cookies, and “rebel” bars.

They describe their dumplings as something you “daydream about”.

If you just can’t get enough of isaw, try The Real Veggie Guys. It will remind you of that famous isaw in UP Diliman.

And many more

There are different kinds of sweets, burgers, sandwiches, home-cooked Filipino food and so much more.

Now in its 4th year, VegFest Pilipinas is the biggest all-vegan festival in Asia. 150 merchants will be participating. This year's theme is "Live kindly for the community".

"There are many benefits to being vegan. We're not just helping ourselves but everyone around," said Mariel Jana Sevilla, Public Relations Officer for VegFest Pilipinas.

Proceeds from the P100 daily entry fee will go to Go Palakas, an organization that conducts plant-based feeding programs for the poor, and Animal Rescue Family (ARF), a volunteer group that rescues abused and abandoned animals.

The festival is happening on November 16-17 at the BGC Arts Center.
